Michelle Sprouse

My name is Michelle Sprouse and I am an Assistant Teacher Professor in the Honors College. I teach the core honors courses, HNRS 2010: Introduction to Critical Thinking and HNRS 2020: Critical Thinking About Great Ideas.

I earned my Ph.D. in English and Education at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, my M.A.T. in Secondary Education from Western New Mexico University, and my B.A. in English Literature from Miami University.

Prior to completing my Ph.D., I worked for more than a decade as a middle and high school English and Native American Literature teacher in New Mexico. At the post-secondary level, I have taught courses in first-year writing and teacher education. I enjoy researching and writing about social annotation and inclusive educational assessment.

When I’m not working, I love to read fiction—literary, historical, fantasy, and romance. My two kids, Natalie and Aubrey, are also rarely without a stack of books and you can often find us sprawled on the sofa with our cat Lily.

Students are my favorite part of my work and I look forward to seeing you in my office or hearing from you at msprous@bgsu.edu.
