Student organizations excel in national competitions and professional development
Student leaders advance their professional skills through national competitions
This spring, student leaders across the college stepped beyond the classroom and into the spotlight at major national competitions. Representing their organizations and the Schmidthorst College of Business, students sharpened leadership, teamwork and communication skills while tackling real‑world business challenges. The hands‑on experience gave them a competitive edge, and a clearer picture of what it takes to succeed professionally.
Beta Alpha Psi
Eight executive board members of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi International attended the Midyear Conference in Cincinnati with 259 students from 45 universities. Erin Gustwiller, Gavin Bryan and Kieran Percival competed in Deloitte’s Best Practices competition, presenting ideas focused on innovation and progress. Erica Post, Jenna Smith and Emma Lochtefeld presented on overcoming operational challenges, while Arden Klaiber and Nathan Niedzwiecki shared how partnerships drive community and professional impact.
American Marketing Association
Five members of the BGSU AMA chapter attended the International Collegiate Conference. All members competed in the Marketplace Simulations Competition, developing products, crafting marketing strategies and engaging target customers. Katie Schmitz and Ava Loch also competed in the Marketing Strategy Competition, Cole Nagy in the Sales Competition, and Dominick Hall in the Perfect Pitch competition. The outgoing president led a session on executive board leadership and chapter planning, sharing insights on chapter growth with nearly 100 students.
Academy of Professional Selling
The Academy of Professional Selling returned to the National Collegiate Sales Competition at Kennesaw State University, marking BGSU’s first participation in several years. Hailee Wolff coached competitors Isaac Sloan and Kyan Ankney through role plays that showcased their preparation, professionalism and confidence. Beyond the competitive events, the weekend provided opportunities to network with students and employers from across the country, reinforcing the strong, supportive community that defines collegiate sales education.
Insurance and Risk Management
Ten students from the Risk Management and Insurance program traveled to Greater Chicago to meet with professionals from firms including Old Republic, Zurich, Concert Group, USI, CNA and Sedgwick. The trip provided hands-on learning and insight into industry practices and career opportunities. Students expressed gratitude to hosts for their time and expertise. The program wants to extend a special thanks to Brady Young at Strategic Risk Solutions and the Spencer Educational Foundation for making the experience possible.
