Faculty Arrivals Mark Start of 2025

As the 2025 academic year begins, the Schmidthorst College of Business is proud to welcome a new group of faculty members joining this fall. This diverse team of educators, researchers and industry experts brings a broad range of experience, innovative thinking and a shared commitment to advancing business education and enriching the college community.

Accounting & Finance 

kt

Kwadwo Amankwah

Amankwah joins the Schmidthorst College of Business as an assistant teaching professor of accounting. He brings more than 15 years of experience teaching accounting at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds an MSA in accounting from the University of Akron, an MPH in biostatistics from Ohio State University and an MSc in economics from the University of the West Indies. He is currently pursuing a DBA in accounting at Liberty University and maintains an active CPA license in Ohio. In 2023, he received the Conley Award for Outstanding Teaching at Ohio Dominican University.

mishra

Prerna Mishra, Ph.D.

Mishra joins as an assistant professor of finance. She brings five years of industry experience from Charles River Development, a State Street company, with roles in Boston and Dublin. She holds a Ph.D. in business administration from Georgia State University, an M.S. in mathematical finance from Boston University and is certified in financial risk management. She is a Spencer Foundation and S.S. Huebner Foundation doctoral scholar.

Du Nguyen, Ph.D., CFA

Nguyen joins the faculty as an assistant professor of finance. A CFA charterholder, he has more than five years of experience teaching finance and CFA curriculum. He earned his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Missouri and an M.Sc. in financial analysis and fund management from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.

Brittany Burns

Burns joins as an assistant teaching professor. She holds a B.A. in Middle Eastern studies and Arabic from Emory University and an MPA from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs. She brings business analytics experience across government, nonprofit and private sectors. Burns is fluent in Arabic and Italian and is currently training for a trail ultramarathon.

Ye Chen, Ph.D.

Chen joins as an assistant professor. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics from the University of Maryland College Park and a B.S. in mathematics and applied mathematics. He previously served as an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. His research interests include stochastic optimization, decision analysis and statistical learning.

Doug Devine

Devine joins as an assistant teaching professor. He earned a B.S. in statistics from Bowling Green State University and an M.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He brings extensive experience in data analytics from major finance companies including FirstUSA, HSBC and Santander. He is also a bitcoin enthusiast and miner.

Hyun Park, Ph.D.

Park joins the Department of Business Analytics and Economics as an assistant professor. He earned a B.A. in economics from Hanyang University in South Korea and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. He previously served as a visiting assistant professor at Tulane University. His research focuses on macroeconomics, monetary economics and time series analysis.

New Faculty  - Rek

Hossein Moradi Rekabdarkolaee, Ph.D.

Moradi joins as the Novak Family Professor in Data Science and associate professor. He holds multiple advanced degrees in statistics, mathematics and systems modeling from Virginia Commonwealth University. He previously taught at South Dakota State University. His research spans dimension reduction, functional data analysis and applications in environmental and health data.

thurston

Rachel Shafer Thurston, Ph.D.

Thurston returns to the Schmidthorst College of Business as an assistant teaching professor of economics. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include auctions and decision theory. She previously taught economics at BGSU from 2016 to 2024.

Management

Meghan Michael, D.O.DC, MS

Michael joins as an assistant teaching professor of management. A U.S. Navy veteran, she has served as a flight officer and HR officer. She co-founded the Collective Resilience Institute and facilitates leadership programs. She earned her doctorate in organization development and change from BGSU and volunteers as a rugby coach.

Amanda Patel, Ph.D.

Patel joins as an assistant professor of management. She previously taught at Suffolk University and managed a communications center. She serves on the board of a startup food cooperative and leads a nonprofit focused on food justice. She earned her Ph.D. in management from the University of Missouri.

Marketing 

chavez

Edward Chavez, D.O.DC, MS, MA

Chavez joins as an assistant teaching professor of business. He has held leadership roles in corporate consulting and executive coaching, including at Allstate and Cuyahoga Community College. He earned his doctorate in organization development and change from BGSU. In 2018, he completed the Camino de Santiago, walking more than 500 miles across Spain

dunn

Marie Dunn, MA

Dunn joins as an assistant teaching professor of business. She has served as a public information officer for the City of Perrysburg and worked in social media consulting. She earned her master’s in strategic communications and social media from BGSU in 2019. Dunn is also an Emmy Award winner.

baumeier

Jennifer Baumeier, MBA, CDR

Baumeier joins as an assistant teaching professor of business. She has held leadership roles in medical device marketing and consulting, including at World Bridge Partners and Silk Road Medical. She earned her MBA from BGSU in 2019 and is known for her humorous takes on music—often singing the wrong lyrics with enthusiasm.
