BGSU Alumni Board of Directors increase student support

2015 Alumni Board

The BGSU Alumni Board of Directors unanimously chose to build on the success of the Alumni Laureate Scholars (ALS) program by providing more than $45,000 of support. This new leadership gift will allow ALS to include a sixth student scholar for the incoming class of 2016-17. During the January 2016 meeting, Alumni Board Chair Dan Mordarski  ’91 challenged members to individually make a stretch gift in support of ALS and the BGSU’s comprehensive campaign. By providing more than $40,000, the Alumni Board of Directors has provided the opportunity for an exceptional BGSU education to an additional student for four years.

Established in 2002, the Alumni Laureate Scholars program has supported 60 students. Each ALS recipient receives a full-tuition scholarship and access to a distinctive program with caring mentors who help students achieve educational success through leadership and service. The program allows students to take part in leadership workshops, community engagement activities, and meetings with University, community and alumni leaders and volunteers. The prestigious program is fully funded by generous alumni and friends.

The BGSU Alumni Board of Directors is dedicated  to ensuring that the University continues to attract the best students in the country. In addition to collectively providing funding to an additional scholar, Board members are actively encouraging peers to give back to provide funding to increase future scholar opportunities.

“As alumni and Board members, we feel passionate about helping current BGSU students achieve and excel, which will eventually make our alumni base even stronger.  By financially supporting the ALS program, the Alumni Board seeks to change the lives of students who receive the scholarship, as well as having those scholarship recipients change the lives of others because of the unique experiences, opportunities and talents they gained from the ALS program,” Chair Mordarski said.

"Being a part of Alumni Laureate Scholars has opened the door to many different opportunities and introduced me to many different people,” Madison Livingston, class of 2017, said. “Having such wonderful experiences has given me the opportunity to grow and learn about myself and others more than I could ever have imagined. I feel very blessed to be part of a group that is so caring and excited to grow."
