Qualifications/Preferred Skills: Must be able to work independently. Must possess an openness to ambiguity. The Learning Commons offers a multitude of services to thousands of students; as a result, the department is dynamic by nature. Flexibility and adaptability are essential qualities. Must possess the ability to interact with a wide variety of constituents. Must be capable of leading a variety of programming, assessment, and outreach initiatives, as well as planning and delivering in-service training sessions. The ability to creatively contribute to the department’s programming and services are critical. Prior tutoring experience Understanding of Navigate, or similar attendance tracking and reporting software, or a willingness to learn. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel; Google docs., etc. is preferred. Knowledge of basic student development theory Prior team management experience.
Position Description: The Graduate Assistant, under the direction of the Assistant Director - Tutoring Services of the Learning Commons, will be part of a team coordinating all tutoring services, including assisting with supervision, hiring, training, and assessment of the tutoring staff.
Major Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting with coordination of tutoring services, including developing schedules, filling appointment requests, monitoring usage, refilling and maintaining usable supplies and resources.
- Assist the Assistant Director in the recruiting, hiring, training, and assessing of tutoring staff.
- Assist the Assistant Director with outreach activities designed to promote The Learning Commons’ tutoring services to targeted populations and to the wider campus.
- Attend scheduled tutoring/clerical staff meetings.
- Assist with the development of CRLA training materials, scheduling, and conducting tutor training sessions, observing and evaluating tutoring staff, tracking training attendance and tutoring hours for tutor CRLA certifications, and creating course content reviews.
- Assist with On-boarding and Off-boarding of Tutoring/Clerical Staff.
- Maintain regular contact with the instructors and assist the Assistant Director in building and maintaining connections between students, cooperating departments, the larger academic community, and community partners.
- Meet individually with students as needed to assess areas of need. Serve as a Tutor as needed. Fulfill the role of E-Tutor for the OhioLink e-Tutoring initiative.
- Assist the Assistant Director with maintaining the main Learning Commons Tutoring Services' websites.
- Run reports and document Learning Commons visits for program-specific programs, including the FLY Program.
