Position Description:
This graduate assistant position has two primary responsibilities: serving as the graduate advisor for Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and conducting outreach to the assigned student caseload. Both functions are within the Office of Student Success Initiatives at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). The graduate assistant will report to and be supervised by the Assistant Vice President for Student Success. In addition to these core duties, the graduate assistant may contribute to other student success initiatives within the Office of Student Success Initiatives and the Division of Student Engagement and Success. The role also includes assisting with day-to-day outreach efforts and student support activities. In addition to supporting Undergraduate Student Government and conducting assigned outreach, the graduate assistant may contribute to other student success initiatives within the Office of Student Success Initiatives and the Division of Student Engagement and Success.
Major Responsibilities:
- Serve as graduate advisor for Undergraduate Student Government.
- Attend weekly Undergraduate Student Government executive board meeting and general body meeting.
- Attend Undergraduate Student Government programs and events.
- Provide targeted outreach and support to students as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Student Success.
- Monitor and follow-up with assigned students about possible barriers to academic progress (e.g., early alerts, midterm alerts, other academic notifications) as directed by the Assistant Vice President for of Student Success.
- Conduct individual appointments with assigned caseload of students.
- Assist with creating training materials and other documents focused on student support and outreach.
- Research best practices related to student outreach and support.
Assist with the creation of outreach communication (e.g., phone, text, email, etc.) to students. - Assist the Assistant Vice President for Student Success in creating, implementing, and evaluating activities, programs, and other outreach efforts aimed at supporting students.
- Assist the Assistant Vice President for Student Success collection of materials for reports (annual reports, student success outreach plans, etc.)
- Participate in meetings and other professional development required for this role.
- Perform administrative responsibilities for tasks related student success outreach initiatives and/or other tasks within the Division of Student Engagement and Success.
- Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by Assistant Vice President for Student Success.
- Complete administrative responsibilities associated with the Undergraduate Student Government and other initiatives connected to Office of Student Success Initiatives and/or the Division of Student Engagement and Success.
