Qualifications/Preferred Skills: 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be admitted to and maintain enrollment in Sport Management, Kinesiology, or an MBA program.
  • Must be willing and able to work approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Team travel is expected.
  • Competitive swimming experience and/or prior coaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn video technology (PoolSide Live, SwimCloud) and digitial tools used for performance analysis.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR Certification preferred, or must obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance expectations.
  • Commitment to supporting the academic and personal development of student-athletes.

Position Description:  The Graduate Assistant for Swimming and Operations assists the coaching staff with the day-to-day management of the swimming and diving program while specifically contributing to the development of the swimming team. This role combines coaching responsibilities with operational and technology support. The position works closely with the head coach and assistant coaches to enhance student-athlete performance, utilize and manage video analysis systems, and help coordinate program logistics and communication.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • Support coaches in organizing and implementing daily swim training sessions.
  • Provide instruction and constructive feedback to student-athletes to promote technical improvement and performance growth.
  • Prepare and operate video equipment before practices to capture underwater and above-water footage for training purposes.
  • Upload, organize, and distribute race recordings and practice clips so swimmers can review performances and technical details. 
  • Lead one of the four stroke-focused training sessions held on Friday mornings.
  • Assist with swim meet operations, including preparation, logistics, and coaching support during competitions.
  • Contribute to team social media efforts by helping gather content and supporting program messaging.
  • Assist with team travel planning and coordination, including schedules, equipment preparation, and itineraries.
  • Provide support in recruiting activities, including evaluating prospective student-athletes and assisting with communication and visit logistics in accordance with NCAA and MAC guidelines.
  • Help maintain training equipment, coordinate facility needs, and assist with practice setup.
  • Complete administrative and organizational tasks related to team operations.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the program within the athletics department and the broader community.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the head coach.
