- Acceptance to a BGSU graduate program
- Experience within collegiate softball preferred
Position Description: The Graduate Assistant for Softball supports the head coach and coaching staff in all aspects of the collegiate softball program. Responsibilities include assisting with daily practice planning and execution, player development, recruiting coordination, game preparation, travel logistics, equipment management, and video analysis. The GA also helps ensure compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules, contributes to the academic and personal development of student-athletes, and promotes a positive team culture. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in coaching, athletics administration, and program management while pursuing a graduate degree.
Tasks and Duties:
- Skill Instruction: Leading specific position groups (e.g., outfielders, catchers) or assisting the hitting/pitching coaches during cage work and bullpen sessions.
- Practice Execution: Setting up equipment (nets, machines, tees), hitting fungoes, and throwing front-toss or batting practice.
- Scouting & Film: Tagging game film using software like Synergy and working on opponent scouting reports.
- Bench Management: Charting pitches, tracking quality at-bats (QABs), or managing dugout energy and communication during game.
- Travel Coordination: Organizing team meals, assisting with hotel check-ins, and managing "luggage logic" for road trips.
- Equipment Management: Inventory tracking, distributing team gear, and ensuring all equipment is accounted for during away games.
- Social Media/Marketing: Assist in managing the team’s Instagram or X (Twitter) accounts to highlight player achievements and game updates.
- Visit Coordination: Helping organize "Junior Days" or official visits, including campus tours and setting up meeting rooms.
- Database Management: Maintaining the recruiting database (e.g., ARMS or Front Rush) and ensuring coach evaluations are filed correctly.
- Camp Logistics: Serving as a primary coordinator for summer and winter prospect camps.
