Program Offered
The Master of Education in Workforce Education and Development program prepares students to provide education, training, development, and related services. Program graduates support economic and workforce development initiatives by preparing individuals for current, emerging, and future careers opportunities. Workforce Education and Development professionals provide services through middle schools, high schools and career centers; in addition to post-secondary educational settings which include community colleges, adult and continuing education, social service organizations, and business and industry.

The program may be completed in conjunction with additional coursework that leads towards Ohio's career-technical and/or workforce development teacher licensure in such areas as agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, marketing, trades, and other career fields.

Prerequisites for Graduate Work
Prerequisites for the M.Ed. include a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. For persons seeking teacher licensure in related areas such as career-technical education, integrated business and marketing, or family and consumer sciences, contact the graduate coordinator at wfed@bgsu.edu.

Admission Procedure
Applicants seeking admission to the graduate program in Workforce Education and Development, which is offered by the School of Teaching and Learning should follow the instructions outlined in the Graduate Admission section of this catalog.  All application materials should be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office.  In addition, applicants should review the admissions requirements specific to the Workforce Education and Development Program.

Additional criteria for “regular “admission to the the program include (see program website for more details) a GPA of 3.0 or higher, Statement of Purpose, and a composite score of 290 or higher on the Graduate Record Exam.  In lieu of the requirements for “regular” admission, candidates may be “conditionally” admitted with a GPA of 2.7 or higher, Statement of Purpose, three letters of recommendation, and a score of 270 of higher on the Graduate Record Exam (students earning less than a score of 270 on the Graduate Record Exam may still be conditionally admitted by earning no grade less than a “B” or “S” in the first nine credit hours of graduate study at the university).

Degree Requirements
Master of Education in Workforce Education and Development requirements can be completed through two plans (Plan I and Plan II).

Plan I: Candidates must complete a total of 36 semester hours of graduate credit that includes a master's thesis. Students must successfully complete the program core (EDWF 5630, EDWF 6010, EDWF 6020, EDWF 6030, EDFI 6140), 18 hours of electives, and EDWF 6990 (under the direction of a graduate faculty advisor).

Plan II: Candidates must complete a total of 36 semester hours of graduate credit that includes a capstone experience. Students must successfully complete the program core (EDWF 5630, EDWF 6010, EDWF 6020, EDWF 6030, EDFI 6410), 18 hours of electives, and EDWF 6040 (includes the capstone experience).

On Campus or Online:

Options are available to support earning the degree on campus, completely online, or through blended learning, depending on the student's desired career and/or program interests.

Graduate Courses

Students may also complete any graduate-level course offered on-campus, when such enrollment is approved both by the graduate coordinator and the campus unit offering the coursework.
