Schmidthorst College of Business celebrates successful AACSB review

November was a momentous month for the Schmidthorst College of Business as we completed a crucial step in the ongoing accreditation journey of the college. A distinguished team – two business school deans, an accounting chair and a senior leader in the accounting field – conducted a comprehensive three-day visit to complete our AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) Business and Accounting Continuous Improvement Review.

Man speaking in meeting

The visit came on the heels of the meticulous five-year self-reflection the college conducted in 2022-23 that demonstrated our commitment to continuous improvement. The purpose of the AACSB visit was not only to validate the strides we have made but to garner guidance and insights that would help us meet the stringent standards set by AACSB for business schools and accounting programs.

Insights, guidance and collaboration

During the visit, we shared our processes, quality assurance outcomes and the positive impact we have had on the community. The AACSB review team focused on our societal impact, delving into the quality and impact of research, the integration of technology in the curriculum, and our strategic and risk management plans. The team's insights and experiences offered valuable perspectives on emerging trends, particularly in the field of accounting. It also provided potential solutions to advisory questions we have had.

A resounding affirmation of the Schmidthorst College of Business

The AACSB review team was particularly effusive in its praise for:

  • Our strong student-centered culture supported by faculty, staff, students and external partners
  • The college's robust connections with industry through advisory boards and internships
  • The intentional design of the Robert W. and Patricia A. Maurer Center and the way it fosters collaboration and enriching student experiences
  • Our high level of engagement from alumni, especially those serving on the Leadership Council, Young Alumni Board and program advisory boards

We wouldn’t have received this glowing review without the support of all who have dedicated their time and expertise to serve on advisory boards. We extend our heartfelt gratitude and hope you know the vital role you play in the success of our students and the college.

As the Schmidthorst College of Business anticipates the final report and feedback from AACSB in the new year, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continuous improvement. The forthcoming recommendations will be diligently incorporated as the college embarks on shaping its strategic plan for 2025-28, reaffirming our dedication to excellence in business strategy and innovation.

Stay tuned as we celebrate this significant milestone and await the transformative impact of the AACSB review on the future of the Schmidthorst College of Business.
