College Saddened with Loss of Two Former Distinguished Professors

The College of Business recently lost two professors - an esteemed former associate dean and former chair of the accounting and management information systems (AMIS) department - Professor Emeritus of Accounting Dr. Ronald Hartley as well as Professor Emeritus of Economics Dr. James Ostas.

Dr. Hartley passed away May 20 after a four-year illness. He joined BGSU in 1965 as an accounting instructor, achieved full professor status, became chair of the AMIS department in 1983, and served as the associate dean of the graduate studies in business from 1990 until he retired in 1998.

During Dr. Hartley’s tenure at the University, he received the first annual Distinguished Teacher in the College of Business Administration award which was presented by the BGSU Parent's Association, and he was nominated as a Master Teacher several times.

Dr. Ostas, a professor emeritus of economics, passed away June 16.  He retired in 1995 after an illustrious 30-year career at BGSU.
