Speed Interviews Prepare Students for Job Interviews

As part of the Introduction to Marketing class (MKT 2010), students prepare a Career Marketing Plan project that ends each semester with a session of Speed Interviews. This “speed” approach allows students to give a brief “elevator pitch” to business professionals from area companies.  These professionals listen to the students’ two-minute pitch and then give feedback on how well the students presented.  After five minutes a bell rings, and the students move to another professional, improving their “sales pitch” each time.

This semester, the Marketing 2010 student winners were -

1st Place – Christina Green

2nd Place – Katia Jurkiw

3rd Place – Lauren Diehl

Nearly 150 students took part in the Speed Interview event and the winning class, overall, was Dr. Steve Koppitsch’s 9:30 class.

Twenty judges from 13 different companies came to campus to assist our students with their job interview preparations.  Those companies included:

  • Brown & Brown Insurance
  • Cardinal Staffing Services
  • Coca-Cola
  • Ernst & Young
  • Hanson Aggregates
  • Howard Hanna
  • MassMutual Financial Group
  • New York Life
  • Northwestern Mutual
  • OtterBase
  • Skylight Financial
  • TQL
  • Verizon Wireless

Our students had a great experience interacting with business professionals and receiving valuable feedback on their performances.
