The BG Ideas Podcast features the Director of the Study of Culture and Society (ICS) at Bowling Green State University and other guest speakers as they talks with academics, artists, activists, and other professionals about the amazing interdisciplinary work being done in and around the university to help address social problems for the public good.

This new and very special season opened on September 9th, 2026 and kicked off ICS’s 30th anniversary celebration. In the premier episode, ICS Director Dr. Valeria Grinberg Pla took us on a journey of past topics, and speakers that have been featured on the BG Ideas Podcast culminating 7 years into 4 chapters: from human potential and innovation, to individual identity and representation. Each chapter highlights important conversations that represent ICS’s core mission of sparking change within our communities. But the celebration doesn’t end there. Later this season we will be discussing ICS’s 30 year history with ICS’s founding director Dr. Vivian Patraka and former Director Dr. Jolie Scheffer. Topics that will also be covered this season include AI and pedagogy with Dr. Erik Garabaya, the unique experiences of Korean adoptees in the Midwest with Dr. Rebecca Kinney, a history of hazing with Dr. Rebecca Mancuso and much more. We look forward to this exciting new season of the BG Ideas Podcast and celebrating 30 years (and many more!) of ICS with you.
