Advising

The primary goal of BGSU's TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) advising is to assist participating students in achieving graduation from BGSU.

Advising and coaching is available by appointment or students can drop in from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. To accommodate the need for a variety of modes of meetings, we can meet with you in person, by phone, or via Zoom.  If students need earlier morning or evening assistance, request the time in advance with our TRIO SSS retention specialist.

Academic, Career, and Personal Advising and Coaching

TRIO SSS retention specialists provide individualized counseling for personal, career, and academic matters advising and coaching, including advice and assistance in course selection.  Program advisors monitor students’ progress on a weekly, monthly and per semester basis and receive and may reach out to regarding Early Alerts from your instructors.  Students’ academic needs are assessed at the initial meeting with their program retention specialist.  Activities are designed to ensure that participants are retained and graduate with a baccalaureate degree, as well as applying for admission to, and obtaining financial assistance for enrollment in, graduate and professional programs.

Financial Aid Coaching and Assistance

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) retention specialists may help member students with information about Federal student financial aid programs and benefits as well as resources for locating public and private scholarships.  TRIO SSS advisors can provide coaching and guidance regarding aid applications and financial education such as budgeting, credit cards, and paying for graduate school.  They may also help students navigate their financial aid packages to better understand their awards and financial aid policies.
