Pro Musica hosts fifth annual Coffee and Classics

BOWLING GREEN, O.–Pro Musica will host its 5th annual “Coffee and Classics” at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 11) in the atrium of the Wood County District Public Library at 215 N. Main Street in downtown Bowling Green.

The public is invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and a morning chamber music concert featuring music students from Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts. Students performing have all been recipients of travel grants funded through Pro Musica at the college.

The program will include: “Sonata, Op. 128” by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (cq) performed by clarinetist Devin Starr and pianist Ana Yoder; “Sonata, Op. 167 ‘Undine’” by Carl Reinecke (cq), featuring flutist Colleen O’Shea Jones and pianist Vitaly Serebriakov (cq) and a solo work for flute titled “Zoom Tube” by Ian Clarke presented by flutist Erin Latham.

Starr, from Warrenville, Ill., studies with Kevin Schempf, an associate professor of clarinet. Yoder, from Elkhart, Ind., and Serebriakov (cq), from Russia, study with Robert Satterlee, an associate professor of piano. All three are graduate students at the college.

Jones, a graduate student from Lansing, Mich., and Latham, a senior music performance major from Akron, study with Conor Nelson, an assistant professor of flute.

For nearly 30 years Pro Musica, funded by more than 200 dedicated alumni, friends, parents and members of the Bowling Green community, has sponsored a wide variety of musical events and provided financial support to music students for educational travel projects. In addition, the organization provides funding for scholarships and various awards at the college.

In March, Pro Musica will provide sponsorship for the sixth annual Bowling Green Chamber Music Competition in Bryan Recital Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center on the Bowling Green campus.
