Alumni ‘don’t stop BGing’ at BGSU Homecoming

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Homecoming 2011 is just a month away, and Bowling Green State University is gearing up for the celebration. “Don’t Stop BGing” is this year’s theme, and the weekend promises nonstop activities from Oct. 12-16, from class and Greek reunions to pep rallies and of course, the game.

The Falcon football team takes on the University of Toledo Rockets at noon Oct. 15 in Doyt Perry Stadium, preceded by tailgating and the alumni Big Barbecue.

Homecoming will offer returning alumni and friends the opportunity to see some of the campus’s new facilities, beginning with the volleyball game against Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Oct. 14, in the Stroh Center. They can also meet new BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey at a reception that evening.

Discounted rates are available to alumni who register for Homecoming events by Sept. 30. Prices go up Oct. 1.

The big parade leads off the festivities, stepping off at 5 p.m. Oct. 14 on Wooster Street and culminating on the University Hall lawn with a pep rally, the crowning of the king and queen and performances by BGSU spirit groups.

In addition to watching Falcon athletes compete, participants can get some exercise themselves throughout the weekend, from free Brown and Orange Skates at the Ice Arena for people of all ages on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, to the annual Freddie and Frieda 5K Fun Run/Walk. The family event gets under way at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Student Recreation Center.
