Faculty, staff encouraged to be part of BG Leadership Academy

The University will launch a new opportunity in 2016 for faculty and staff to develop their leadership potential and contribute to the continued progress of the University. The former BG Leadership Institute has been revamped and given a new name: The BG Leadership Academy (BGLA).

The new format is designed to be more inclusive, including faculty along with classified and administrative staff, and to result in functional solutions that will move the University further toward achieving the goals of its strategic plan, according to Viva McCarver, chief human resources officer.

BGLA will offer a systematic approach for faculty and staff to learn leadership theories and apply them to real institutional initiatives. It will be a five-month integrated program, beginning in January, with five, full-day sessions.

To be eligible to participate in the leadership academy, you must be a current, full-time employee with at least two years of faculty or staff experience at BGSU and request that your supervisor provide a “Nominator Rationale.”

Because the program has been restructured this year, previous cohort members are eligible to participate in the new academy.

Find more information and apply online. The application deadline is Dec. 14.

Faculty, staff asked to fill out disability self-identification form

Bowling Green State University is committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive campus community that embraces the talents and achievements of all individuals and insuring compliance with federal regulations.

The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) issued new regulations that changed the way the University reports its workforce, specifically regarding individuals with disabilities. The new regulations mandate a good-faith effort to achieve a workforce with 7 percent employees with disabilities. Therefore, BGSU must canvass all faculty and staff to capture an initial baseline for compliance reporting.

While your update is encouraged to assist the University in better understanding and reporting the makeup of its workforce, updating your status is optional and voluntary. No employment decisions will be based on whether or not a status update is offered. The data is being collected to assess retention and will be kept confidential.

Log in to MyBGSU to update your disability status as follows:

·      Select the Employees tab
·      Scroll to the Disability Link in the left navigation panel
·      Click on the link
·      Complete the form by selecting one of the three buttons
·      Click “Submit”

For more information, contact the Office and Equity and Diversity. Visit the OFCCP's website for additional details about this initiative and read a copy of the Disability Self-Identification form.
