BGSU librarian to speak on generative AI at Lourdes University opening day
Laura Sheets, associate professor and instruction services librarian in University Libraries’ Teaching & Learning department, has been invited to speak on generative AI at Lourdes University’s All Campus Opening Day event on Monday, Aug. 18.
The event serves as a kick-off for Lourdes’ participation in the Council of Independent Colleges’ AI Ready initiative, a yearlong effort to help faculty and staff build a foundational understanding of AI tools, their capabilities and their impact in higher education.
Sheets will deliver the campuswide presentation at 12:30 p.m. in the Franciscan Center, focusing on three of the four tenants of generative AI literacy: functional, ethical and rhetorical literacy. Immediately afterward, she will lead a faculty session dedicated to the fourth tenant: pedagogical literacy. This session will explore strategies for making syllabi and assignments AI-ready, including practical applications of the AI Assessment Scale and the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) Framework.
The presentations aim to spark campuswide dialogue about AI’s role in teaching, learning and academic integrity, providing Lourdes faculty and staff with the tools to navigate emerging technologies with confidence and purpose.
Sheets is recognized at BGSU for her expertise in emerging technologies and her ability to translate complex concepts into engaging, accessible learning experiences. Her invitation to speak reflects her leadership in shaping conversations about AI in higher education.
