Non-native English Speakers
If English is not your first language, the Writing Hub is here to support you. We welcome all international, multilingual and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students and offer writing appointments designed to meet your specific needs.
How We Can Help
Our writing consultants are trained to support culturally and linguistically diverse students. We provide a friendly, supportive space where you can:
- Get help understanding U.S. academic writing expectations
- Improve grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary
- Learn about tone, formality and cultural nuances in academic and professional writing
- Receive feedback on course papers, presentations and other writing projects
- Access resources tailored for ESOL and multilingual writers
Meet with a Consultant
Students enrolled in ESOL courses are encouraged to make appointments with one of our ESOL writing consultants:
Anastasiia Kryzhanivska
I am an Associate Teaching Professor in the English Department and a Writing Specialist at The Learning Commons Writing Center. I work with both graduate and undergraduate writers and specialize in providing consultations to multilingual, international, and ESOL students. My background is in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) which includes teaching, tutoring, and administrative experience. I also have a huge collection of resources to share with student writers and love learning from their work.
Mackenzie Blume
I am an undergraduate Applied Health Sciences major on the pre-medical track at BGSU, passionate about helping others inside and out of academia. I am currently a Writing and Course-based Tutor at the Learning Commons in the Jerome Library, as well as a Medical Scribe in the Toledo area. With experience in both the sciences and the arts, I am well equipped to assist international students with a diverse array of writing projects, and I hope to be a source of encouragement and support for anyone looking to develop their skills in the American academic field.
