Meet with a Writing Consultant

Non-native speakers of English and ESOL students are encouraged visit The Learning Commons. A group of our consultants have completed additional training with the Learning Commons ESOL specialist to work with ESOL writers.

Students enrolled in ESOL classes should make an appointment with these consultants, but every writing consultant at The Learning Commons can help writers and answer their questions. Consultants can also help writers understand assignment guidelines. Writing appointments are 50 minutes long, and students can make two appointments a week.

Currently, I am studying Communication Sciences and Disorders at BGSU, and I am planning to continue my education to later become a Speech Language Pathologist. I also work at the Learning Commons as a Writing Mentor. Pursing this career and being a part of the Writing Center team have given me a new appreciation for communication. Seeing students' confidence grow throughout a session, collaborating with other passionate Writing Consultants, and interacting with a variety of students on campus are some of my favorite aspects of being a Writing Mentor that I look forward to continuing throughout my future semesters!

I am an English and German double-major here at BGSU! I work as a Writing Mentor at the Learning Commons and have been working with ESOL students for 3 years. I would describe my tutoring style as empowering, open, and engaging. Outside of work, my areas of study include contemporary German history, horror in literature, and video games as media. I believe language and storytelling are extremely powerful tools, so being able to help writers develop their skills is something I find very special.

I am a fourth year student at BGSU majoring in Integrated Language Arts education. Some of my favorite classes have included Linguistics and Foundations of Teaching Writing, so I am excited to bring this knowledge to my role as an ESOL Writing Consultant. Outside of my professional and academic life, I enjoy spending time outside and participating in creative writing clubs. I am the current president of BG Inklings, a creative writing club open to all BGSU students.
