Meet with a Writing Consultant

International, multilingual, and ESOL students are encouraged to visit The Learning Commons Writing Hub. Our specially trained consultants offer writing consultations and provide a supportive environment for academic writing, language development, and cultural understanding. Our team is committed to helping culturally and linguistically diverse writers succeed.

  • Academic writing guidance: Understand and navigate U.S. academic writing expectations.
  • Language and grammar assistance: Improve your writing skills with our help.
  • Cultural nuances: Learn about cultural aspects of academic and professional writing.
  • Tailored resources: Access resources specifically designed for international, multilingual, and ESOL students.

Students enrolled in ESOL classes should make an appointment with these consultants, but every writing consultant at The Learning Commons can help writers and answer their questions. Writing appointments are 50 minutes long.

I work with both graduate and undergraduate writers and specialize in providing consultations to multilingual, international, and ESOL students. My background is in Applied Linguistics (TESOL) which includes teaching, tutoring, and administrative experience. I also have a huge collection of resources to share with student writers and love learning from their work.

Hailie Crowder

I am a music performance (voice specialization) Graduate Student here at BGSU, and I work as a writing tutor in the Learning Commons Writing Hub. Additionally, I am a TEFL-certified ESL tutor and have conducted online English tutoring sessions with adults and children from all over the world. Saba Aryanfar

I am a graduate student in Textual and Literary Studies at Bowling Green State University and a Writing Consultant at the Learning Commons. We hold weekly sessions where I analyze second-language learning, academic texts, and key language-writing structures—grammar, vocabulary, and organization—through a linguistics-informed approach.

With nearly 10 years of teaching experience and an academic background in Linguistics, TESOL, English Literature, and Translation Studies, I have taught Pre-IELTS and IELTS courses and English classes for non-native speakers in Iran. At BGSU, I support undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students as a writing specialist, guiding them through all stages of the writing process.

I am passionate about supporting native, bilingual, and multilingual students, helping them strengthen their academic writing skills and navigate different academic writing styles within the U.S. educational system.
