Leadership Council Recognizes Faculty with Awards for Excellence

The College of Business has outstanding faculty members who are positively impacting student learning as well as their fields of study and the business community. To honor their distinguished achievements and contributions, the College’s Leadership Council presents Faculty Excellence Awards.

Three faculty were recognized at the Insider’s Luncheon for going beyond business as usual. The following are the 2019 award winners in teaching, engagement with industry, and outstanding research contributions.

Incoming Leadership Council chair D’aun Norman presented the awards. Here are the winners and the selection committee’s praise.

Faculty Excellence in TeachingKatharine Sobota, Lecturer, Economics

Ms. Sobota’s passion for teaching and student learning were apparent in her application. Her outstanding student evaluations, management of student expectations, and incorporation of active learning in the classroom are commendable. The selection committee also noted her use of experiments in behavioral economics and research projects incorporating a multifaceted analysis of labor markets.

Faculty Excellence in Engagement with Industry – Steve Cady, Associate Professor, Management

Dr. Cady’s teaching focus is on organizational behavior and change.  His emphasis on experiential learning from industry professionals permeated his application. The selection committee was particularly impressed with Dr. Cady’s integration of problem-based learning, simulations, and active learning with case studies to solve complex problems facing a company.

Faculty Excellence in Research -  Dr. Liuling Liu, Assistant Professor, Finance

Dr. Liu has been a prolific publisher during her short career, publishing 12 peer reviewed articles in the last five years. In addition to the quantity of her work, the committee also noted the quality of her research with two articles published in journals on the Financial Times list of the top 50 research journals in business.

Each of the faculty winners received a $5,000 award, along with a statue. Congratulations to these faculty members for their significant achievements!
