In Brief: February 6

Trans* activists to share concerns about state control

“Fight Like Hell for the Living: Trans* Activists Speak Out About State Violence” is the second presentation in the 2017 Spring Speaker Series hosted by the University’s Institute for the Study of Culture & Society (ICS).

During the Wednesday (Feb. 8) panel discussion, a group of regional activists will discuss ongoing concerns from Trans* communities about the ways their everyday actions and their identities are regulated and contained by agents of the state. The event, which is free and open to the public, starts at 5:30 p.m. in 208 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The panel members are working to challenge various forms of state control and violence against Trans* bodies.

The lecture series is focused on exploring the relationship between institutions and social inequality, between our civic organizations and the public(s) they serve.

Guests with disabilities are requested to indicate in advance if they need special services, assistance or appropriate modifications to fully participate in this event by contacting Accessibility Services at dss@bgsu.edu or 419-372-8495.
