During University breaks, the Office of Student Housing encourages students to spend time with family and friends, and enjoy their breaks.
For students who are unable to leave campus, we offer housing options even when the University is closed.

Break Housing
Closing Checklist
- Clean your room
- Empty all trash and take it to the dumpster
- Empty room recycling containers and take it to the larger recycling containers in the hall or lobbies
- Leave the heat on (so the pipes will not freeze in the event of cold weather)
- Close and lock the windows
- Leave curtains open, except on the ground floor (for security purposes)
- Take home any valuables
- Make sure furniture is not blocking room doors or windows
- Turn off all lights
- Lock your door; take key and BGSU ID with you

The Office of Student Housing offers Thanksgiving Break on-campus housing to current residents for NO fee.
Application Timeline | Nov. 1 to 12 p.m. on Nov. 15
Approval Notification | Nov. 16

Apply for Break Housing:
- Complete the Thanksgiving Break Housing Application which can be found in your Housing Portal under “Manage My Housing”.
- There is no cost to stay on campus during the Spring Break period, but you are required to sign up in order to stay on campus.
- The location of Thanksgiving Break housing will be determined at a later date. You will be assigned to a room that is not currently occupied or to a lounge space. Depending on demand, there is a possibility that you will have a roommate.
- Our office will notify you via your BGSU email if you have been approved for Break Housing and give any additional instructions by Nov. 16.

- Defrost refrigerators in advance
- Take all perishable food items with you
- Unplug fish tanks and take fish with you for break
- Leave curtains open, except on the ground floor (for security purposes)
- Take home any valuables
- Make sure furniture is not blocking room doors or windows
- Turn off all lights
- Lock your door; take key and BGSU ID with you

Fee | $210 per week
Apply for Break Housing:
- Complete the Winter Break Housing Application which can be found in your Housing Portal under “Manage My Housing”.
- Winter Break Housing is a rate of $210 per week.
- Weekly rates start on Sundays. If you are staying in a hall on a Sunday, you will be billed to your Bursar account for that entire week. Once your account has been charged it is no longer refundable and you will be obligated to pay the balance, even if you do not stay the whole week in the hall. After billing is applied to your account for a given break week, it is no longer refundable and you will be obligated to pay the balance.

Please Note: You may be assigned to temporary housing, meaning you will not be assigned to your current room or hall. If this occurs, you will not be assigned a space that someone is currently living in, it will be a vacant room that is available.
