Transfer Scholarships

BGSU works hard to provide students with a variety of financial resources and payment options to meet their educational costs.

As a special offer to transfer students, the Office of Admissions is providing the BGSU Bound Merit Scholarship and Transfer Opportunity Scholarship.

Non-Ohio residents may also qualify for the BG Success Scholarship which provides one-half off the nonresident fee.

BGSU Bound Merit Scholarship

A $4,000 competitive, renewable merit based scholarship for transfer students ($2,000 Fall Semester/$2,000 Spring Semester). Apply by June 1

To qualify

  • Student must be a new, incoming transfer student entering BGSU in the fall semester.
  • Student must be transferring from an accredited two or four year institution.
  • Students with at least 24 college level semester hours completed must have a 3.25 cumulative college GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students with less than 24 college level semester hours completed must have a 3.25 cumulative college and a 3.5 high school GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Student must enroll full time on main campus.  (eCampus and distance students do not qualify.)
  • Scholarship is renewable based on the number of credit hours taken prior to attending BGSU.
  • Deadlines: Students must be admitted to BGSU by June 1.  Scholarship application must be submitted by June 1.

To renew

  • Complete a total of 30 semester hours in one academic year (fall, spring and summer terms included).
  • Earn a cumulative BGSU GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must continue full time enrollment at BGSU. Scholarship may not be maintained if leave from school is taken.

Transfer Opportunity Scholarship

A $2,000 renewable scholarship for incoming transfer students ($1,000 Fall semester/$1,000 Spring semester)

To qualify

  • Transfer applicants must have a cumulative college GPA (all college course work will be included) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Demonstrate financial need based on a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Student must be transferring from an accredited two or four year institution.
  • Student must enroll full time on main campus.  (eCampus and distance students do not qualify).
  • Scholarship may be available for incoming new spring semester transfer students if funds are available and other terms and conditions are met.
  • Scholarship is renewable for one additional academic year if terms and conditions are met. See below for details.
  • Deadlines: Fall applicants must apply by July 15 and spring applicants must apply by December 15 to be considered.

To renew

  • Complete a total of 30 semester hours in one academic year (fall, spring and summer terms included).
  • Earn a cumulative BGSU GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must continue full time enrollment at BGSU.  Scholarship may not be maintained if leave from school is taken.
  • Continue to demonstrate financial need.

BG Success Scholarship

This renewable scholarship provides one-half off the nonresident fee and is currently valued at $3,768 per year ($1,884 fall semester / $1,884 spring semester). This scholarship is awarded automatically to qualifying students.

To qualify

  • A non-Ohio resident.
  • A transfer student must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Student must enroll full time on main campus. (eCampus and distance students do not qualify.)
  • Deadlines: Fall applicants must apply by July 15 and spring applicants must apply by December 15 to be considered.

To renew

  • Complete a total of 30 semester hours in one academic year (fall, spring and summer terms included).
  • Earn a cumulative BGSU GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must continue full time enrollment at BGSU.  Scholarship may not be maintained if leave from school is taken.
  • Must remain a non-Ohio resident.

The Robert and Ellen Thompson Scholarship Program for Working Families

The Robert and Ellen Thompson Scholarship Program for Working Families application is available to incoming Fall 2016 transfer students with at least one year of full-time U.S. or National Guard military service. This scholarship is awarded  based upon financial need. Minimum awards are $1,000 per year. The application deadline is April 15, 2016.
