Joint Communication Regarding MOU Memorializing Extensions of Probationary Period

August 10, 2020

Dear Faculty Colleagues:

On April 21, 2020, following discussions between the BGSU Faculty Association and his office, Provost Joe Whitehead distributed an email acknowledging that the COVID-19 pandemic clearly qualifies for an extension of the probationary period as allowed in Article 11 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Probationary TTF who felt that a one-year extension of their probationary period was warranted, based on the effect of these disruptions to their teaching, research and service portfolio, were requested to submit a request in writing to their dean by May 1, 2020. The deans and Provost endorsed all requests that came forward.

Based on questions that arose in response to the communication and form, both the University and the BGSU Faculty Association felt it appropriate to memorialize our understanding in a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed on July 26, 2020.

Best wishes as you prepare for the upcoming fall semester.
