Dr. Simon Morgan-Russell is a native of North Yorkshire, England. He earned his B.A. (Hons.) in English and American literature from the University of Kent at Canterbury, in England, in 1989, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1992 and 1994, respectively.

He joined the faculty of Bowling Green State University’s English Department in 1994 and was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2000 and to professor in 2007. Dr. Morgan-Russell’s fields of specialization in English include Renaissance and Restoration drama and contemporary British television and film. He has published essays or articles in all of these areas. In 2004, he published a book, “Jimmy Perry & David Croft,” which discusses the evolution of the British situation comedy across the careers of two writers between the 1960s and 1990s.

Dr. Morgan-Russell has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses in early British literature, Shakespeare and British situation comedy. He has been a regular contributor to the BGSU Honors College.

Dr. Morgan-Russell has a long record of service and academic leadership at BGSU. He became assistant chair of English in 1999, chair of English in 2003 and associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences in 2005. He was named interim dean of the college in July 2008 and was appointed dean in February 2009.

Dr. Morgan-Russell maintains an active interest in contemporary British fiction, film and theatre.

I have been a Falcon since 1995 when I came to the University to work on my Ph.D. in the Department of English after completing a double B.A. in English and communication at Bluffton College. In 2000, I earned my Ph.D. and began teaching full time for the University Writing Program.

At BGSU I have taught courses in first-year writing, literature, women’s studies, and lesbian and gay studies. I was named BGSU’s 2010 Master Teacher Award winner by the Student Alumni Connection, was awarded BGSU's College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award in 2021, and was named Bowling Green Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2024.

I am the author of Wasted: Performing Addiction in America (Routledge, 2015), Addiction, Representation and the Experimental Novel, 1985-2015 (Anthem, 2020), and the forthcoming The Embattled Academy: Staging the U.S. Culture Wars in Twenty-First-Century U.S. Drama.

I love working with students in and outside of the classroom, and I welcome the opportunity to sit down and chat with Honors students. So, whether you’re in my classes or not, feel free to stop by my office, introduce yourself and say “hello.”

I provide academic advising for Honors College students and assist with the Honors Projects process and forms.    

I am originally from Pennsylvania. I earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from Mansfield University and a Master of Science in college student personnel from Shippensburg University. Previously, I worked in advising, admissions, residence life and housing.

I support prospective students considering the Honors College and alumni interested in engaging with current students.

I am a two-time BGSU alumnus. I graduated in 2020 with my B.A. in environmental policy and analysis and in 2023 with my M.A. in history. I am also a graduate of the Honors College and a member of the 2016 Presidential Scholars cohort. Prior to this position, I was a BGSU admissions counselor working with students in southwest Ohio.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my Falcon Flame, Adam, and our two dogs, Acadia and Olympia. I am a recreational distance trail runner and a yoga instructor. I have academic interests in wellbeing, environmental justice, humanities and interdisciplinary research.

Hello! As the Honors College Student Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, I have the privilege of working with prospective students throughout the application process, advising current Honors students, and supporting our internal scholarship program and national honor societies. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is helping students make the most of their college experience and achieve their goals.

Before joining the BGSU Honors College, I worked in college admissions and as a college counselor at a private 9–12 high school. I earned my M.A. in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University and my B.A. in Communication from The University of Toledo.

Outside of work, my husband and I have loved cheering on our twin sons as they've competed in baseball and golf. We're excited that they'll both be joining the BGSU community as students in Fall 2026! I also enjoy golfing with family and friends, spending time outdoors, meeting friends for coffee or yoga, and snuggling with my dog.
