Biography:
Dr. Kate Vallerand is a clinical social worker and health educator with a career that started in clinical practice. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wayne State University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, she worked as a clinical therapist and emergency social worker. Seeking to broaden her impact, she earned a Doctorate in Health Education from the University of Toledo. With over 10 years in social work and public health, Dr. Vallerand focuses on applying real-world experience to teach future public health and allied health professionals to succeed in an evolving healthcare landscape. Outside of work, Dr. Vallerand enjoys scuba diving and cheering on Detroit sports teams!
Research interests:
Dr. Vallerand's work bridges social work and public health, fueled by her passion for giving a voice to marginalized communities and addressing disparities in sexual and reproductive health. As a qualitative researcher, she's especially interested in how these issues impact women and college students, with the goal of advancing more inclusive and equitable healthcare and public health practices.
