Dr. Jim Ciesla, health economist by training, has taught and conducted applied research for over 30 years. His research focuses on ways to operationalize, measure, and evaluate the outcomes of health and human services, especially those delivered to underserved groups, through the application of human capital economic theory. His research has been funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trust, the Centers for Disease Control, and other federal agencies and private foundations. He is the author many academic articles, abstracts, monographs, and other published works. Jim serves as the dean of the College of Health and Human Services, a position he assumed in July 2018. Prior to coming to BGSU, he spent over 20 years at Northern Illinois University as faculty member and serving in various administrative roles. He holds advanced degrees from The University of South Carolina, Tulane University, and the University of Chicago.
