Firefighter and EMS Education Pathway

A new partnership between EHOVE Career Center, BGSU Firelands and Bowling Green State University makes it easier to turn firefighter and EMS training into a college degree and long-term career advancement.

This three-step pathway allows students to begin with hands-on public safety training, earn an associate degree and continue to a bachelor’s degree — all through a connected process designed to save time and maximize previously earned credentials.

Step 1: Train for the field at EHOVE

Students begin with EHOVE’s Public Safety/Firefighter-EMT program, where they gain the technical skills and certifications needed for careers in firefighting and emergency medical services.

This hands-on training prepares students for immediate workforce entry while creating a direct connection to college-level study.

Step 2: Build your degree at BGSU Firelands

Students who complete eligible EHOVE training can apply credit toward the Associate of Technical Study in Fire Administration at BGSU Firelands.

Offered fully online, the program is built for flexibility — ideal for working firefighters, EMTs and adult learners balancing professional and personal responsibilities. Coursework helps students strengthen leadership, communication and administrative skills needed for advancement in public safety careers.

Step 3: Complete your bachelor’s degree through BGSU

After earning the associate degree, students can continue seamlessly into BGSU’s bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration.

The bachelor’s program prepares graduates for supervisory and leadership roles through coursework in management, budgeting, policy and organizational leadership.
