Chapman Learning Community
The Chapman Learning Community is an award-winning, high-impact program for first- and second-year students of all majors, including undecided students. Established in 1997, Chapman is designed to teach students how to collaboratively work with local and regional nonprofit agencies to help those in need. The leadership skills Chapman students gain as members of the community have been praised by employers and agencies for over two decades and are often the reason our members are accepted as interns or hired professionally following graduation. We welcome anyone who is motivated to serve others, and to prepare to lead in their respective professional fields, to apply today!

Serve
Chapman students have many opportunities to serve their community. Current opportunities consist of:
- Study poverty and help serve food at a soup kitchen
- Discuss animal rights and assist with animal care at the Humane Society
- Explore ecological sustainability and remove invasive species at a local park
- Research the impact of military deployments upon veterans and military families while assisting a regional equine therapy non-profit and the Ohio National Guard.
Leadership
Returning sophomore students (and beyond) become leaders in the community. Chapman Leaders have an important role within the community. Some of their key responsibilities include:
- Serve as peer-mentors to first-year Chapman students
- Work with graduate interns, the Chapman Secretary, CLC director, Resident Advisors, and other Chapman faculty to assist new students with questions, registration and transitioning to life at BGSU
- Plan community service and social events

Residential Requirement | First- and second-year students are required to live in the Learning Community. Third- and fourth-year students serve in a leadership role and do not have to live in the community to be a member. All community residents must choose a roommate who is also a member of the community.
About the Community | Chapman students live in a diverse population in McDonald Hall along with other highly ambitious and motivated students who are members of other learning communities. Students work, live and hang out together to ease the transition to college life, while also helping the community.
McDonald Hall | is centrally located and steps away from the Bowen-Thompson Student Union and the Jerome Library. McDonald Hall is a Traditional residence hall and houses classrooms and faculty/staff offices. Amenities include an art studio, music room, study area, computer lab, laundry on each floor, and a full community kitchen.
How to Apply
Each community has a set of residence hall rooms specifically designated for them. To sign up for one of these rooms, you must apply and be accepted into the community. To ensure your chance to live in the community, please complete the following steps:

| Step 3 | Click on Add a New Community Enrollment Request and choose your desired community and academic year/term |
| Please Note | Students can apply only for two communities on their own. If you want to apply to more than two communities, please contact the additional communities you are interested in so they can apply for you. If you have applied for two and change your mind, go into the system and withdraw yourself from the one(s) you are no longer interested in. This will open up a space for you again. |
After you have submitted your request to join a community, you will receive an email from the community director approving your request. When it’s time for you to select your room in the next phase, you will be able to view and select rooms within the designated community space in the community’s residence hall. For example, if you choose to join the Chapman Learning Community, you will select a room in McDonald Hall.
