COAPRT ACCREDITATION

Bowling Green State University's Tourism, Hospitality, & Event Management (THEM) program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). COAPRT accredits baccalaureate programs in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management, event management, therapeutic recreation and leisure studies offered at regionally accredited institutions within the United States and its territories, and at nationally accredited institutions in Canada and Mexico.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE

As assessment evidence in support of the achievement of the COAPRT Standards 7.01, 7.02, and 7.03 by the Tourism, Hospitality, & Event Management students at Bowling Green State University, selected evaluation questions from comprehensive examinations in THEM 2150, Introduction to Tourism and Event Management, and the field experience supervisors' internship evaluation means from THEM 4880, Internship, are presented.  For questions about these assessment data or their interpretation, please contact Dr. Bob du Lee, THEM program coordinator (bdlee@bgsu.edu ).

While BGSU’s THEM program is accredited by COAPRT, there are degree mills and accreditation mills present throughout the country. Please watch this important video to learn more. According to the Council for Higher Education Association (CHEA), "Degree mills and accreditation mills are misleading and harmful. In the United States, degrees and certificates from mills may not be acknowledged by other institutions when students seek to transfer or go to graduate school. Employers may not acknowledge degrees and certificates from degree mills when providing tuition assistance for continuing education. “Accreditation” from an accreditation mill can mislead students and the public about the quality of an institution. In the presence of degree mills and accreditation mills, students may spend a good deal of money and receive neither an education nor a useable credential."
