FLY Tutoring Services
Personalized academic support for FLY students
Peer tutoring provides students support with course content, assignments, writing, math, statistics and study strategies.
FLY students can access 1-on-1 tutoring for many courses, weekly writing support and drop-in tutoring through the Learning Commons. Tutoring availability varies by course and semester.
Tutoring options
Tutors are BGSU students who have successfully completed the courses they support and are trained to help students work through challenging concepts and develop effective study strategies.

FLY students have access to personalized math and statistics support through the Learning Commons.
- 1-on-1 appointments with a math specialist or peer tutor
- Drop-in help in the Math & Stats Lab
- Support for math, statistics and related courses
FLY students can work with trained peer writing tutors throughout the writing process.
- Weekly or one-time appointments
- Support for writing in any course
- Help with brainstorming, organizing, drafting and revising
- Feedback to help students become stronger, more independent writers

The Learning Commons offers 1-on-1 tutoring to FLY students for many BG Perspective courses. Course availability changes each semester based on course offerings and tutor availability.
Available BG Perspective courses:
- BIOL 1000/2000
- CHEM 1000
- COMM 1020
- CS 1000
- ETHN 1010
- HIST 1250, 1260, 1510
- POPC 1600
- PSYC 1010
Submit a Tutoring Inquiry Form. We'll look at the course and determine what support may be available.
If 1-on-1 tutoring isn't available, students may be able to get help through:
- Drop-in tutoring
- A study group
- A tutor in a related subject or major
- Math & Statistics tutoring
- Writing tutoring
A course not appearing on the list doesn't mean your student can't get help.
Tutoring may be available for 3000- and 4000-level courses, but 1-on-1 tutoring isn't guaranteed. Upper-level courses often cover specialized topics, and there may not be a tutor who has completed the specific course.
Students in upper-level courses can still request tutoring and explore drop-in or related-subject support.
Tutors are trained to help students become more confident and independent learners. Tutoring is more than getting answers to homework questions.
Students can expect to:
- Work through challenging concepts
- Ask questions and talk through problems
- Practice effective study strategies
- Better understand assignment expectations
- Build confidence and independence
Tutors do not complete assignments, provide answers to tests or quizzes or replace the student's instructor. Students are responsible for their own coursework and should follow their instructor's policies about getting help.

Tutors can help students:
- Understand their instructor's AI expectations
- Review course or assignment guidelines
- Talk through appropriate ways to use AI
- Think critically about AI-generated information
- Make informed, ethical decisions about using AI in their coursework
Students should always follow their instructor's policies for AI use.
Students get the most from tutoring when they come prepared. Bring:
- Class notes
- Textbooks or course materials
- Assignment instructions or rubrics
- Questions or problems you'd like to work through
- Your laptop, if needed
