Carol Hall Talks about the Decision to Join Honors

Dear prospective student and family:

My name is Carol Hall, and I'm a film production major with a minor in business at  BGSU. You may be wondering if the Honors College is the right fit for you. I felt the same way.

I had taken honors and AP classes, but people always tell you that college is way harder than high school, so I thought being in the Honors College would be too overwhelming. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the course work or would fail my classes; but it turns out I was very wrong.

Believe me, Honors isn't just for crazy smart students; it's for people who love learning and want to be surrounded with like-minded students who care about being successful in college. Honors will allow you to have smaller class sizes, which is a great way to build closer connections with classmates. Smaller classes are also beneficial because sitting in a large lecture hall can seem very daunting, especially during your first semester of college.

But Honors isn't all about studying. Being admitted to the Honors College means you can join the Honors Learning Community (HLC). As a member of the HLC, you can live in Founders, a suite style hall that includes your own bathroom. There are so many amazing benefits to the HLC, but the trips have to be my favorite part. We go on an overnight trip to Chicago, Canada and a brand new destination every year. There are also day trips to see Broadway shows, visit the Toledo Zoo and so much more.

Contact me if you have questions or reach out to my Honors College mentor/Honors College Recruiter, Katrina Heilmeier, at katrilc@bgsu.edu. We both want you to join the Honors family!

Go Falcons!
