Professional Development

Student Organizations

Students are encouraged to actively participate in any of BGSU’s many student organizations.  More popular choices that are particularly linked to Exercise Science are

  • Exercise Science Club
  • Pre-Physical Therapy Club
  • Gerontology Student Association
  • Health Care Administration Association

Professional Associations

Exercise science faculty encourage students to join one of the many professional associations associated with the exercise science program. Faculty encourage involvement in the following:

  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • Midwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)

These associations lead to networking opportunities and certifications needed to join the workforce in certain areas.

BGSU Jeopardy Team

Every year, the exercise science faculty select three upper-level undergraduate students to participate in a jeopardy-style quiz bowl at the Annual Meeting of Midwest ACSM. The meeting is typically held in late October to early November. Team members are selected at the beginning of the Fall semester and the Program and School of HMSLS provide financial support for travel and participation. For more information, please contact the Program Coordinator.

Undergraduate and Graduate Research

There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in research. Students are highly encouraged to consult with a particular faculty member that has a research area that is in-line with their particular career goals and academic interests. Students interested in clinical exercise physiology, or related areas, are encouraged to contact Dr. Lynn Darby, Dr. Amy Morgan, or Dr. Todd Keylock. Students interested in sport and human performance should contact Dr. Jessica Kiss or Dr. Nathan Peters. Students interested biomechanics should contact Dr. Adam Fullenkamp. Students interested in sport medicine should contact Dr. Andrea Cripps, Mr. Chris Schommer, Dr. Jenny Toonstra, or Dr. Sara Stiltner.
