Regarding Content Restructuring – Preparing Canvas Course Shells for Spring 2021, Summer 2021, and Fall 2021

November 13, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

This joint communication provides information regarding the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding: Content Restructuring: Preparing Canvas Course Shells for Spring 2021, Summer 2021 and Fall 2021.

On June 22, 2020, the University community was informed that the University partnered with a team of instructional designers at Instructure, the company behind Canvas, to assist the University with improving teaching and learning. Instructional design services were offered to some faculty who teach courses that primarily enroll first-year students to make existing course content clearer and easier for students to navigate.

To continue this effort, the University will provide an opportunity for faculty to again work with instructional designers to improve the presentation of courses within Canvas course shells for first-year students and upper-level students that enroll large numbers or have been identified as a priority for student progress toward the degree.

The commitment to faculty ownership of course content remains and is memorialized in this Memorandum of Understanding.

Regards,
