Labor-Management Committee: Updated RTP Part I Policy and Merit Part I Policy to Comply with CBA#3

February 21, 2020

Dear BGSU Faculty:

The RTP and Merit Policies at BGSU are each divided into two linked documents:

Part I: CBA-Required Processes, which include those aspects of the policy process as required by the CBA. All academic units must follow the processes included in this document; and

Part II: Unit Academic Expectations/Standards and Local Processes, which include each academic unit’s approved expectations and standards of performance for reappointment, promotion, and tenure, and merit as well as optional process language permitted by the CBA (e.g., faculty involvement in the APR process).

Part I policy documents are updated as needed (e.g., to comply with approved changes in the updated CBA). Following the ratification of CBA #3 (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022), the Labor-Management Committee submitted updates to both the RTP Part I Policy and Merit Part I Policy documents to comply with CBA #3. On February 6, 2020, Provost Joe Whitehead and BGSU-FA President David Jackson approved updates to both Part I policy documents.

The new Part I documents are posted on the Provost website and have been electronically distributed to Chairs, Directors, and Deans.

Academic units are invited to review and update their Part II documents to comply with CBA #3 as appropriate (e.g., replace NTTF language with QRF language). The Labor-Management Committee is currently working to recommend to Drs. Whitehead and Jackson efficient processes for the review, revision, and approval of Part II policies for RTP (Article 14, Section 9) and Merit (Article 17, Section 14.1).

This communication will be archived on the Provost website.

Sincerely,
Labor-Management Committee
