Changes to Part I: Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion Policy

May 22, 2018

Dear BGSU Faculty Colleagues:

At its May 4, 2018, meeting, the BGSU Board of Trustees approved mandated changes by the Ohio Legislature (O.R.C. Section 3345.45(c)) to the “Part 1: University-Wide Processes Required by the CBA” for all academic unit Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion policies.

The Part I policy now allows academic units to modify their tenure and promotion criteria for tenure-track faculty to include, where appropriate, commercialization outcomes and activities to count toward the evaluation of faculty research/creative activity in recommendations for tenure and promotion. The endorsed language was proposed by the Labor-Management Committee and endorsed by Provost John Fischer and BGSU-FA President David Jackson.

The updated “Part 1: University-Wide Processes Required by the CBA” policy document is posted on the Provost web page.

Sincerely,
Bill Balzer and Phil Stinson
Co-Chairs, Labor-Management Committee
