Alpha Kappa Alpha Education Advancement Foundation Scholarship

The Educational Advancement Foundation provides scholarships based on merit and financial need for deserving undergraduates.

American Australian Association Fellowships

The American Australian Association awards Fellowships each year to Australians and Americans for advanced research and study in the United States and Australia respectively. The Fellowships build on existing strong social and economic partnerships and foster intellectual exchange between the United States and Australia.  To date, over 200 Fellows have received awards totaling over US$5 million to pursue studies in critical fields - from key medical research to sustainability - at top institutions such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton.

American-Scandinavian Foundation Awards

The ASF offers fellowships and grants to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian countries for up to one year. Applicants must have a research project that must be completed in a Scandinavian country and complete their undergraduate education by the start of the project.

Austrian-American Educational Commission Teaching Assistantships

This program provides college graduates with the opportunity to work as teaching assistants to English teachers in secondary schools across Austria. Benefits include health insurance and a salary. Students must be younger than 29 years of age at the time of application. 

Blakemore Foundation Language Grants

The Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund an academic year of advanced language study abroad of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other selected Southeast Asian languages. Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree and at least three years of study of the language at the college level by the start of the grant. 

Boren Graduate Fellowship

Boren Fellowships allow U.S. graduate students to study languages abroad in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Students must be a U.S. Citizen, enrolled in or planning to enroll in a graduate program in the United States, and planning an overseas trip while enrolled in graduate school. A condition of this award is the NSEP service requirement. 

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduates participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. 

City Year

City Year participants serve for 10 months as tutors, mentors and role models in schools across the U.S. as well as South Africa and England. Benefits include a living stipend, $5,500 award, student loan forbearance, and health insurance. Students must have a college degree and be younger than 24 at the time of application. There are multiple deadlines for the program. 

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program

The Youth Exchange Program for Young Professionals is a year-long, work-study fellowship program in Germany for business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields. 

Critical Language Scholarship Program

The CLS Program provides fully-funded intensive language instruction in host countries during the summer for seven to ten weeks. Students must be enrolled undergraduates at the time of application.

D.C. Internships

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) sponsors institutes that offer classroom study, internships, and special events. Sophomores and juniors with relevant professional or volunteer experience are preferred.

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides scholarships for students to study languages abroad in regions critical to U.S. interests. Students who plan to study in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand are not eligible. Awards are up to $10,000 per semester and in exchange for funding, students must agree to the NSEP service requirement. Study abroad programs must end prior to graduation.

Emigre Memorial German Internship

The Internship Program offers students internships at a German state parliament to gain government work experience, improve German language skills and learn about German culture. 

English-Speaking Union Scholarship

The Kentucky Branch of the ESU will award scholarships for students to take summer courses offered at three institutions in the United Kingdom: Cambridge University, Oxford University, and Edinburgh University. Students who do not have extensive experience traveling abroad are encouraged to apply. 

Foundation for Global Scholars

The Foundation for Global Scholars awards scholarships to U.S. citizens studying abroad. Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be studying abroad for a minimum of 28 days. Applications are accepted for Spring/Summer Programs, Fall Programs, Winter Programs. 

French Internship

The Lexington Sister Cities Commission offers students from Lexington to gain professional experience through an internship in France. Benefits include a placement for internship, living arrangements, and some compensation. Applicants must be 18 years old, have good knowledge of French, and be available to be abroad for 2 months.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is designed to give students opportunities to pursue graduate study and research in over 100 nations. Most grants are Full or English Teaching Assistantship grants. Students must hold a Bachelor's degree prior to beginning the program. 

The campus deadline for the 2016-2017 academic year is September 6, 2016.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge. Applicants cannot be a citizen of the United Kingdom. 

German Chancellor Fellowship

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's German Chancellor Fellowship Programme is targeted at university graduates who have an international outlook and leadership experience. Fellows spend a year in Germany networking with other prospective leaders from abroad and to explore new solutions to global issues.

Gilman Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduates receiving Federal Pell Grants to study abroad. Students apply directly for this award but must have a letter of support from a Study Abroad Adviser AND Financial Aid Adviser.  

Humanity in Action Fellowship

The HIA Fellowship brings international groups of students and recent graduates to explore national histories of discrimination and resistance. Students in all fields are welcome to apply, although an interest to pursue inquiry into minority and human rights issues is key.

International Research Experiences for Undergraduates

U.S. chemical and materials science students may apply for a summer research opportunity in Germany, Italy, Singapore, and the United Kingdom through the ACS International Research Experiences for Undergraduates (IREU) program.

James "Rhio" O'Connor Memorial Scholarship Fund

The James "Rhio" O'Connor Memorial Scholarship Fund offers an essay contest for students with the subject concerning cancer.

JET Program - The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program

JET students participate in an exchange program in Japan to teach English or work in local offices dealing with international relations or teaching sports. 

Killam Fellowship Program

The Killam Fellowships Program allows undergraduate students from Canada and the United States to participate in a program of  binational residential exchange. Killam Fellows spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the host country. 

Laura W. Bush Traveling Fellowship

The fellowship will help fund a proposal designed by the applicant to conduct brief work in a foreign country related to the mandate of UNESCO – using education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations.

Marshall Scholarship

The Marshall Scholarship enables students to study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Benefits include a personal allowance to cover living expenses, tuition, fares to and from the U.S., grant for books and approved travel in connection with studies. Students should complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

Masa Israel Grants and Scholarships

Masa Israel works to make it as easy as possible for Jewish young adults to go to Israel.

We offer grants and/or scholarships to help make the experience more affordable, and collect information about other grants and scholarships available for long-term Israel programs from third party organizations. 

Mitchell Scholarship

The Mitchell Scholarships grant a student one year of graduate study in any discipline offered by an institution of higher learning in Ireland or Northern Ireland. The program provides tuition, housing, living expenses, and an international travel stipend. Applicants should be under the age of 30 at the time of application and should complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program

This program is an accelerated, individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research careers. Research experience is preferred and students must be a U.S. citizen to apply. 

Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholarships

The Overseas Press Club Foundation sponsors a scholarship for students interested in becoming foreign correspondents. The scholarship pays for travel and living expenses and provides an internship at foreign bureaus. Students in all fields are encouraged to apply, but must be interested in becoming a foreign correspondent. 

Pasteur Foundation Undergraduate Internships

The Pasteur Foundation of New York encourages students to pursue scientific careers and expose them to an international laboratory experience during a 10-week summer internship. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and should have working knowledge of French. 

Princeton in Asia

Princeton in Asia is an independent program driven by a mission to foster cross-cultural understanding between East and West by giving young people opportunities to live and work in Asia. Positions are available in multiple Asian nations.

Qatar Scholarship

The Qatar Scholarship Program offers the opportunity for dedicated Arabic language students to master their skills in an intensive Arabic program at Qatar University for an entire academic year. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident between 18 and 40 years old, have completed a Bachelor's degree by the beginning of the program and have studied Arabic for at least two years. 

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship enables students with demonstrated intellectual and academic achievement, integrity of character, and the ability to lead to study at Oxford University in England. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and younger than 24 years of age at the time of application. Students should also complete a bachelor's degree before taking up the award.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award

The Award provides a $10,000 stipend for a graduating student to pursue one year of public service anywhere in the world.

Schwarzman Scholars

Undergraduates with an excellent academic record are encouraged to apply for the Schwarzman Scholars Program to attend Tsinghua University, one of China's leading universities, to complete a Master's degree in one of three disciplines: Public Policy, Economics and Business, International Studies. Applicants must be younger than 29 years of age and have an undergraduate degree before orientation begins.

Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance Summer Scholarship

The TUSA Summer Scholarship Program is a unique ambassador program designed for full-time students to learn Mandarin and immerse themselves in culture of Taiwan over 2 months. Applicants must be American citizens who neither hold a Taiwan passport, nor claim Taiwanese or Chinese heritage. 

Teach and Learn in Korea (TaLK) Program

The "TaLK" Program offers participants to choose a six-month or one-year commitment to teach English in rural areas of Korea. Benefits include accommodations, round-trip flight, and cultural field trips. Students must be a U.S. Citizen or citizen of one of the seven major English-speaking countries in order to apply.

Teach for China

Teach for China participants commit two years to teaching a full course load of core subjects, that may include English, math, and science, in collaboration with local teachers. Benefits include a stipend, and living accommodations. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree before the start of the program and speak fluent English. 

Teaching Assistantship Program in France

The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. Candidates must be native speakers of English and have a basic proficiency in French (equivalent to 3 semesters of college French). 

The Blakemore Foundation 2016 Language Grants

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one academic year of full-time, intensive language study at the advanced level in East or Southeast Asia in approved language programs. For grants to be awarded in 2016, study must start between June 2016 and May 2017.

US-UK Fulbright Summer Institutes

The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers Summer Institutes for US undergraduates (with at least two years of undergraduate study left) to study in the United Kingdom during the summer. Programs range from four to six weeks and allow students to experience an exciting academic program at a highly regarded UK University. 

WorldTeach

WorldTeach offers the opportunity for students to volunteer to teach in a developing country. Although not salaried, programs provide a living allowance to cover day-to-day living expenses. Students must have a Bachelor's degree before the beginning of the program and have an interest in education.
