The AORN Foundation awards scholarships to students who are pursuing a career in perioperative nursing. 

Connecticut Health Policy Project Internships

The Connecticut Health Policy Project has worked to improve access to affordable, quality health care for everyone in Connecticut. Interns provide Connecticut residents with information about and referrals to healthcare resources. 

Global Health Fellowship

The Medical Missionaries Global Health Fellowship offers recent college graduates, graduate students, or professionals interested in global health the opportunity to gain experience in health care delivery in a developing country.  Fellows spend one year in Thomassique, Haiti, working at St. Joseph’s Clinic. 

Horseshoe Farm Fellowship

The fellowship is a unique community-based "gap year" opportunity for those interested in healthcare or other community-based services. 

James "Rhio" O'Connor Memorial Scholarship Fund

The James "Rhio" O'Connor Memorial Scholarship Fund offers an essay contest for students with the subject concerning cancer.

Laura W. Bush Traveling Fellowship

The fellowship will help fund a proposal designed by the applicant to conduct brief work in a foreign country related to the mandate of UNESCO – using education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations. 

National Health Service Corps

The NHSC Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students pursuing primary health care professions in eligible disciplines for a commitment to provide health care to communities in need upon graduation. Students must be enrolled in or accepted to an eligible degree program in Medicine, Dentistry, Nurse Practitioner, Certified nurse-midwife or Physician Assistant to apply. 

National Institutes of Health Intramural Research Training Award

The NIH Postbac IRTA program provides recent college graduates, who are planning to apply to graduate or professional school, to spend one or two years performing full-time research. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and intend to apply to graduate or professional school. 

National Student Nurses' Association Undergraduate Scholarship

The National Student Nurses' Association awards scholarships to students currently enrolled in schools of nursing or pre-nursing. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or students with an Alien Registration number. 

Soros Fellowships for New Americans

The Soros Fellowships provide funding for tuition and living expenses for graduate programs for permanent residents or naturalized citizens. Applicants must be a resident alien (green card holder), naturalized U.S. citizen, or child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. Visit the website for more information.

Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP)

The SMDEP program offers students representing a wide range of economic, cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity a variety of academic and career experiences that will support their dental and medical school career preparation.

All the housing costs and most meals are covered by the program. Scholars are provided with a $600 stipend which is typically distributed at the midway and at the end of the program. Some program sites offer travel assistance awards. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation also provides a needs-based scholarship for travel to and from the program site.

The Leadership Alliance Summer Research-Early Identification Program

The Leadership Alliance encourages students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities to pursue research careers in the academic, public and private sectors. The organization sponsors closely mentored research experiences in a broad range of academic disciplines at 22 research institutions.

Tillman Military Scholars

The Tillman Military Scholars program supports active and veteran service members who are completing a degree. Applicants must be a full-time student at a U.S.-based accredited institution and be a veteran or active duty military service member or spouse of an active duty or veteran service member. 

Tylenol Scholarship Program

The Tylenol Future Care Scholarship Program helps students who are pursuing degrees in healthcare. Winners will receive awards up to $10,000 to offset the cost of tuition. 

US-UK Fulbright Summer Institutes

The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers Summer Institutes for US undergraduates (with at least two years of undergraduate study left) to study in the United Kingdom during the summer. Programs range from four to six weeks and allow students to experience an exciting academic program at a highly regarded UK University. 

Venture for America Fellowship

Venture for America looks for talented seniors and recent grads who have track records of being leaders to join the movement to build businesses and create jobs throughout the country. There are deadlines in September, October, January, and March.
