Timeline

WhatWhen (assuming full-time enrollment, beginning fall semester)
 
1. Choose a Topic2nd Semester
2. Select committee members (work with your advisor to do so)  2nd Semester  

3. Develop the proposal (work with your advisor to do so)  

1st Summer  

4. Proposal presentation and defense

  • At least 3 weeks ahead of time, schedule the date and time for the proposal meeting with your advisor and committee members
  • At least 2 weeks before the scheduled meeting, check with Amy Kolk (HMSLS Support Staff Member) that Eppler Center, Room 105 is available for the meeting time and reserve the room.
  • Immediately after confirming the availability of room 105 EC and at least 2 weeks before the scheduled meeting, submit the Thesis Proposal Announcement Form to Amy Kolk (HMSLS Support Staff Member) and Jessica Kiss (Graduate Coordinator).
1st Summer or 3rd Semester  

5. Obtain IRB approval

  • Plan at least 8 weeks from time of submission to approval  
 

6. Topic Approval Form

  • Must have IRB approval before this form can be submitted
  • Submit via docusign  
 

7. Collect Data

  • Plan at least a full semester to collect and analyze data
 

8. Final Thesis Presentation and Defense

  • At least 3 weeks ahead of time, schedule the date and time for the proposal meeting with your advisor and committee members.
