Day One Course Materials Program

Day One Course Materials is a program that provides your required course materials directly in Canvas at a discounted price. Instead of purchasing access codes or eBooks separately, you'll automatically receive access in Canvas on or before the first day of class.

The cost of the materials is added to your student account, allowing for eligible financial aid or payment plans to help cover the expense. If you prefer to obtain your materials another way, you may opt out before the posted deadline.

When you register for a participating course, you are automatically enrolled in the Day One Course Materials Program. Your required materials are delivered through Canvas, and the cost is added to your student account.

You'll be able to access your materials on or before the first day of class. If you decide not to participate, you can opt out before the posted deadline and obtain your materials independently.

Once you've registered for classes, you can view your customized book list by clicking on "View Book List" under the Student Resources dropdown in MyBGSU.

If you are enrolled in a participating course, you'll also receive emails before the semester begins explaining how to access your materials and outlining your options to opt out.

Day One Course Materials ensures you have the correct materials when classes begin while offering significant savings compared to purchasing many digital materials at retail prices.

The exact cost for your course materials is available to view from the Textbooks website before registering for a course. The cost will also be listed on your student account after registering for the course.

Log in to Canvas and open your course. Participating courses include a Day One Course Materials tab where you can launch your digital materials.

Some eBooks open directly in Canvas while publisher courseware may redirect you to the publisher's website for your first login.

Materials are typically available on or before the first day of class.

If you recently added a course, it may take up to 24–48 hours for your materials to appear in Canvas.

An eBook is a digital version of your textbook that you can read online. Ror many titles, downloading for offline reading may be available. It often includes features like highlighting, note-taking and keyword search.

Courseware goes beyond a digital textbook. It combines the eBook with interactive learning tools such as homework assignments, quizzes, videos, practice activities and progress tracking. Examples include MyLab, Connect, MindTap and WebAssign.

If your course uses courseware, you'll likely complete assignments and quizzes within that platform. If you choose to opt out of Day One Course Materials, you'll need to obtain access another way to complete required coursework.

Access depends on the publisher and the type of material.

Interactive courseware is available for the duration of the course. Many eBooks remain available beyond the end of the semester, though the length of access varies by publisher.

Many eBooks can be downloaded for offline reading using the publisher's reader app.

Most interactive courseware and related eBook require an internet connection.

Day One Course Materials provides digital materials through Canvas. If you prefer a printed textbook, you may opt out of the program and purchase a print copy on your own.

Some publishers offer print versions of their digital materials for an additional cost. Availability varies by title and publisher.

Students who need a print format as part of an approved accommodation should contact Accessibility Services for assistance.

The cost is automatically added to your student account along with your other university charges.

You don't need to purchase textbooks, corsewear or access codes separately unless you choose to opt out.

Because the charge is billed through your student account, eligible financial aid, scholarships and payment plans may be used to help cover the cost.

The Day One Course Materials charge is added to your student account before the start of the semester. The timing may vary depending on when you register for classes. If you add a participating course after your initial registration, the charge will be added after your enrollment is processed.

You can view your course materials charges through your student account before the opt-out deadline in your MyBGSU Student Center.

Yes.

Students enrolled in participating courses are automatically included in the program. If you do not opt out before the deadline, you'll be charged even if you never open or use the materials.

Opting out removes your access to the provided materials and cancels the associated charge.

You'll still be enrolled in your course, but you'll be responsible for obtaining all required materials on your own. Find the required course materials on the BGSU Textbooks website.

There are three ways to opt out. Choose the option that works best for you.

• Open your course in Canvas and select the Day One Course Materials link. Follow the prompts to opt out before the posted deadline.
• View your personalized book list by clicking on "Vew Book List" under the Student Resources dropdown in MyBGSU. Find the course with Day One Course Materials and follow the prompts to opt out. 
• Contact BGSU Textbooks and notify them that you would like to opt out.

Once your opt-out is confirmed, your access will end and the charge will be removed from your account.

The opt-out period ends 15 calendar days after classes begin. The dealine is posted on the BGSU Textbooks website and in Canvas on the Day One Course Materials tab.

Yes.

You may opt back into the program before the opt-out deadline. The charge for the Day One Course Materials Program will re-appear on your student account. Access to your course materials may take up to 48 hours to reinstate. 

After the deadline passes, opt-in access may not be restored. Contact BGSU Textbooks for options.

Once the deadline has passed, the charge is generally final.

If you remain enrolled in the course after the deadline, you'll be responsible for the cost of the materials.

No.

If you drop a participating course during the university's add/drop period, you'll automatically be removed from the program and the charge will be reversed according to university policy.

If you opt out or drop the course before the deadline, the course materials charge will be removed or credited to your account.

Refund timing depends on normal university billing processes.

If you register after classes begin, your materials will generally appear in Canvas within 24–48 hours.

The regular opt-out deadline still applies.

Waitlisted students generally do not receive access until they are officially enrolled in the course.

Once enrolled, access is provided automatically.

Whether you'll need to purchase the materials again depends on the publisher's licensing terms.

Some digital materials can be reused, while others require a new purchase.

Some course materials are licensed for use across multiple semesters, while others expire at the end of a term.

If your course uses materials that span more than one semester, you may not need to purchase access again as long as your original license remains active. However, access terms vary by publisher and product.

If you don't see your course materials in Canvas, first confirm that your instructor is participating in the Day One Course Materials program and that the course has been published.

If you recently registered for the course, it may take up to 24–48 hours for your materials to appear. You can also try refreshing the page or logging out of Canvas and back in.
