Special Consideration Application
What is the special consideration application?
The special consideration application is for students and families whose financial situation has changed since submitting their taxes or FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). We may be able to adjust your financial aid based on your new circumstances.
When should I submit a special consideration application?
You should submit an application whenever you or your family have experienced a significant change in finances, such as:
- Loss of employment or major reduction in work hours
- A substantial drop in household income
- Unexpected major expenses or hardship
Special consideration applications can be submitted at any time during the school year. Processing and deadlines vary based on individual circumstances.
Application process
Describe your current circumstances and what has changed. You do not need to gather supporting documents at this time.
Student Financial Aid and Scholarships will review your initial form and may ask for specific documents to support your case.
These documents could include:
- Proof of job loss
- Pay stubs showing reduced income
- Other supporting evidence
To check what documents may be required, log into your MyBGSU Student Center and check your Action Items and To Do List.
Once all required documents are submitted, we will process your request. Special consideration applications are typically processed in two to three weeks.
If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies for special consideration, call 419-372-2651 to speak with a financial aid advisor.
