Financial aid verification
What is financial aid verification?
Verification is a routine process used to confirm the information you provided on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
If you’re selected, BGSU’s Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships (SFA) will request additional documents before your award offer can be processed.
Don’t wait! Missing or late documents can hold up your financial aid.
How to complete verification
Check your to-do list.
- Log in to MyBGSU > Student Center.
- Check your Action Items and To-Do List to see what documents are required.
Gather required documents.
You may be asked to provide:
- Student and/or parent tax transcript or signed copies of your Federal 1040. Request your federal tax return transcripts directly from the IRS.
- Any other documents in your To-Do List. Visit the SFA forms page to download the correct forms.
Upload your documents.
Include your student BGSU ID number at the top of every document. SFA processes documents in the order they are received.
Wait for processing.
Allow 7-10 business days for processing once forms are submitted.
Who is selected for verification?
Verification is required by the U.S. Department of Education. Any student who completes the FAFSA may be selected for verification.
You may be chosen:
- Randomly
- If your FAFSA is incomplete
- If your FAFSA includes conflicting information
