Falcon Flames Jim and Kay Eiting share more than their time at BGSU
From baptism to graduation, never alone
Falcon Flames Jim ’70and Kay ’70 Eiting have more in common than graduating from Bowling Green State University, they have been together all of their lives.
Both born February 25, 1948, these Pisces both hail from Tipp City, Ohio. Kay’s family lived in town, Jim’s family in the country. “My mother delivered me in a hospital in Troy, Ohio, and Jim’s mom delivered him in Dayton, Ohio,” Kay said.
Today, on her refrigerator, is a picture of her baptism. It is also the picture of Jim’s baptism, since they were baptized on the same day at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. “Since both of our families attended the same church, Jim and I did all of our sacraments together, from baptism to confirmation!” Kay said.
They also attended the same elementary, junior high and high school together. “We started dating our sophomore year in high school,” explained Kay. “We then attended BGSU together.”
Jim joined ROTC while at BGSU. “He had to go away and do army service his junior and senior year, so I stayed at BGSU all summer and took classes,” said Kay. She graduated from BGSU in March 1970 and they were married a month later on April 11, with Jim graduating in June. “That last quarter was crazy – we were graduating, getting married, and it was the same time as the Kent State incident,” remembered Kay.
Looking back, Kay said they have always been together. “We even took some classes together at BGSU since both of our majors were in Education.”
Jim is now retired and they reside in Dallas, Texas. They have four sons and three grandchildren, with another on the way. They still have family in the Midwest, and recently returned to BGSU to help celebrate its 100th birthday along with their 40-year college reunion.
The Universal Psychic Guild defines the life pursuit of a Pisces to avoid feeling alone and instead feeling connected to others. That would describe these two, who earlier this year shared their 65th birthday and their 43rd wedding anniversary.
Alike in so many ways, Kay is quick to point out that there are some differences. “Jim is an introvert, and I am a complete extrovert,” she said. Which would make sense, as shown by the symbol of the Pisces, a sign that is symbolized by the image of two fish – one fish heading upward, the other pulling downward.
