~~CANCELED~~ Fire Officers Guide to Modern Fireground Management - 3 Day Class
Classroom dates:
October 6-8, 2025
8am - 5pm
Description
The fireground is a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment where the first-arriving company officer must often juggle multiple critical roles. These include acting as the initial incident commander, setting priorities, creating an incident action plan, coordinating crews, managing overall strategy, and at times, performing hands-on tasks—all while ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the response. The complexity of these responsibilities demands strong leadership, clear decision-making, and tactical proficiency.
This course, taught by a chief officer with over 36 years of experience across various fire service models, is designed to prepare personnel for those challenges. It focuses on strategies and tactics suitable for departments of any size, including the integration of mutual aid and standardized county-wide operating procedures. Students will explore key topics such as 360° scene size-ups, risk management, accountability, and rapid intervention. Through the use of tactical worksheets, LODD reviews, fireground video analysis, and the SimsUshare simulation software, participants will develop practical skills in incident command and operational leadership. While open to all fire service ranks, the course is specifically geared toward current and aspiring company officers.
This class will utilize SimsUshare software.

"The instructors did a great job of taking the fire response of a large city department and breaking it down so it can apply to a small-town response with mutual aid."
"This class was a hybrid of scene size-up, safety officer, and fire tactics. There was an emphasis on safety and accountability. It was a smaller class which allowed students to get into specific details of their department’s safety procedures and fire response tactics."
