Academic program update

April 10, 2026

Bowling Green State University has long adjusted its academic portfolio – adding, reconfiguring and evolving, and removing – to meet the continuously changing needs of our students, industry and community. This established internal practice has allowed the University to grow strategically by reallocating resources to areas of increased demand, leading to unprecedented levels of enrollment growth and student success.

Based on our own internal processes, 20 programs will be reconfigured and strengthened to meet evolving demand. In addition, to comply with Senate Bill 1, Bowling Green will suspend only new student admissions for six programs starting with the Spring 2027 semester, and we are seeking approval from the state to reconfigure four additional programs.

All students currently enrolled in the academic programs being reconfigured or suspended, as well as students planning to enroll in these programs by August 1 for the Fall 2026 semester, will be able to complete their degree in these programs without interruption or delay. As a growing public university in Ohio, Bowling Green has long been committed to ensuring our academic program offerings are meaningful and relevant, while providing an education of value for our students and the public.

Below is a listing of affected programs, which will be updated accordingly:

To strengthen the following academic programs, Bowling Green State University is seeking to reconfigure the programs below with alternative options available based on similar and/or related fields of study.
