Financial Aid Packaging

A financial aid offer is made up of multiple types of aid for students who qualify. These funds are combined with your resources to help meet your overall financial need.

 Types and amounts of aid depend on:

  • Federal and state regulations
  • Academic class status (freshman, sophomore, etc.)
  • Grade point average
  • Available funding
  • Enrollment status (full- or part-time)
  • Level of need

Aid packages may be adjusted as a result of new application data, verification processes, enrollment status or office error.

After your FAFSA is submitted and processed, a financial aid offer will be available for you to review. The package may include one or more types of the following aid:

  • Grants
  • Scholarships
  • Loans
  • Work-study eligibility

Aid eligibility

Criteria for selecting financial aid recipients varies by program. Guidelines are set by federal and state agencies to determine requirements for:

  • Federal loans
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal TEACH Grant
  • State grant programs

Priority filing date

Certain types of financial aid have limited funding, so it is important to file your FAFSA early. Programs like Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) and federal work-study are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

To be considered for these funds at BGSU, undergraduate students should submit the FAFSA by the priority deadline in February to ensure they are included in the automated selection process.

Scholarship selection committees evaluate most scholarship applications.
