Military Education Benefits
Bowling Green State University supports military-affiliated students – including active-duty service members, veterans and dependents – through a combination of military education benefits and traditional financial aid.
- Military education benefits are provided through federal and state programs.
- Financial aid (such as grants, loans and work-study) is available by completing the FAFSA. Review how to apply for aid.
A financial aid advisor can help you understand grants, loans and work-study, but military benefit details are managed through your ESO or VA representative.
Military education benefits
Military benefits often require advance approval or certification before courses begin.
- Tuition assistance (TA)
- Available to active-duty service members, members of the Reserves and some members of the National Guard
- Approval from your Education Service Officer (ESO) is required before enrolling in courses.
- GI Bill® programs
- Available for eligible veterans and dependents
- Students must submit a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to Nontraditional and Military Student Services (NTMSS).
- Ohio-specific benefits
- Eligible students may qualify for additional state-funded programs, including the Ohio National Guard Scholarship and the Ohio War Orphans and Severely Disabled Veterans’ Children Scholarship.
Applying for additional financial aid
Complete the FAFSA to be considered for federal grants, loans and work-study. Apply for scholarships through the BGSU general scholarship application.
Billing and planning
Military education benefits may pay all or part of your tuition and fees, depending on your eligibility and benefit type.
Because processing timelines can vary, students should:
- Confirm benefit details and payment timing with their ESO or VA representative
- Monitor their student account regularly
Payment plans are available through the BGSU bursar’s office to help manage any remaining balance.
