2. The Sky Has No Borders: Perspectives on Astronomical Knowledge from Canada, Mexico and the United States

Description: The total solar eclipse on April 8 will stretch across North America, with the path of totality crossing Mexico, the USA and Canada. Eclipse watching has a rich cultural and scientific history that stretches back thousands of years to many pre-contact North American cultures and continues to inspire imaginations to the present day.
Join us for an evening of discussion with scholars from archaeology, astronomy and the history of science about the many ways people experience the night sky – past and present.
This symposium is presented by the Department of History and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Bowling Green State University, with support from the Reddin Fund for Canadian Studies.

Description: Please do not approve Duo authentication requests if you are NOT actively attempting to log in to a Duo-protected service (Canvas, MyBGSU, etc.).
Hackers can use your stolen usernames/passwords to initiate Duo prompts. Approving these prompts gives hackers access to your accounts!

During this time, an outage will occur to the Campus Solutions (CSS)/Student Center, Financial Management System (FMS) and Human Capital Management (HCM) applications. Description: Feb. 8 marked the 50th anniversary of the American situation comedy "Good Times," which aired on the CBS network until Aug. 1, 1979. The series was remarkable for its time because it featured the first intact Black nuclear family, the Evanses, on primetime television. 4. Mastering Mindsets: Life design workshop for students

Description: Are you familiar with the life design mindsets but wondered how exactly you can practice and develop these mindsets? The Mastering Mindset Series focuses on principles and practices to utilize life design mindsets more effectively in life, work, academics and relationships.
To accommodate busy student schedules, each workshop will be 60 minutes long and will be offered from 1-2 p.m. on Thursdays for six weeks. Each week will focus on a different mindset. Register to secure your spot.
Students are welcome to register for individual sessions or the entire series. Those who complete the entire series will earn an exclusive Mastering Mindset Life Design T-shirt and a Mastering Mindset certificate, which includes suggestions on how to translate this learning experience onto your resume.

5. Spring break service trip to the Appalachian Trail

Description: Join bGAB on a student-led service trip to the Appalachian Trail (AT)! On this service trip, participants will be serving with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) in Damascus, Virginia, and will be staying with the Appalachian Trail Institute. Service work will include trail maintenance, helping the ATC prep for the spring and summer season and working alongside local AT hiking clubs. The trip will leave on Saturday, March 2, and will return on Friday, March 8.
Trip Cost: $275 (includes transportation, lodging and food. Once registered, you will receive a link to BGSU Cashnet to make the payment for the trip).
An in-person trip orientation meeting will be held for the site leaders and participants before the trip departs to review the trip itinerary, packing list and overall logistics of the trip.

Using Microsoft Visual Studio 2022, implement graphical user interfaces on Windows OS with object-oriented C# programming. Also, learn event-driven programming, Windows Forms applications using .NET, data validation (files, XML), handling graphics (GDI+), accessing databases (SQL, ADO.NET), basics of n-tier application design, and much, much more!

1. Call for proposals for the Better Toledo series

Description: The Institute for the Study of Culture and Society (ICS) invites you to submit a proposal for a public presentation for Better Toledo — A personal and professional development series to ensure “you will do better in Toledo.”
The presentation will take place on Sep. 5 at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library to kick off Welcoming Week, an annual event that brings together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.
We are looking for an engaged and enthusiastic graduate student or faculty member from BGSU to deliver an interactive talk or workshop on a topic of their choice that speaks to the “Welcoming” theme. Presentations should be one to two hours long (including audience participation) and may cover a variety of themes relevant to Welcoming Week such as diversity and inclusivity in a creative way.
Your proposal should include a brief description of the talk or workshop topic related to “Welcoming” and how it serves the public good through interdisciplinary humanities/arts/social sciences research, as well as a short resume.
Submit your proposal by March 19 to ics@bgsu.edu.

3. Learn when to incorporate AI into your class

Description: The Center for Faculty Excellence is excited to launch the new Learning Lounge Series this spring. Consisting of short and impactful virtual sessions, the Learning Lounge Series is designed to equip you with practical strategies and tools you can use in your course design and classroom instruction. Each 30-minute session starts with a 5- to 10-minute presentation and is followed by time for asking questions and sharing experiences.
February’s virtual Learning Lounge, “Deciding When to Incorporate AI into Your Class,” will explore a decision tree for determining how and when to use AI in your courses. After the session, the AI decision tree and presentation recording will be shared with you.

6. Take the stress out of teaching citations

The Center for Faculty Excellence and University Libraries will be offering a virtual workshop, “From Punishment to Empowerment: Considering a Cultural Shift in Teaching Citations and Plagiarism Prevention,” with workshop facilitators, Laura Sheets, assistant professor and library instruction coordinator, and Maureen Barry, acting first-year experience coordinator.
This workshop will explore how to talk about citations and academic dishonesty with students in a way that can ease stress and create a relationship of care between you and your students.
