What is Falcon Funded?

Falcon Funded is Bowling Green State University’s crowdfunding platform. It offers opportunities for student organizations, colleges and divisions to raise additional funds for:

  • Research projects
  • Scholarships
  • Specialized equipment
  • Service projects
  • Student organization trips
  • Athletic department projects
  • And more

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a fundraising tool to fund a project or venture by raising smaller amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet. Crowdfunding is driven through personal connections and outreach.

BGSU’s crowdfunding campaigns will be administered by University Advancement using the GiveCampus platform.

How to start a Falcon Funded campaign

Any of BGSU’s colleges, departments, divisions, student groups and faculty are eligible to apply. All projects are considered on an individual basis by the University Advancement team and must be aligned with University priorities as detailed in BGSU’s strategic plan.

  • A campaign team of five or more project advocates who have the passion and willingness to solicit and share the project with their personal and professional networks
  • Campaigns that gain 30% of their funding goal in the first week of the “active phase”
  • Campaigns that feature videos. Videos need not be “polished” and a more genuine approach is preferred.
  • Campaigns that clearly demonstrate the tangible impact a donation has for BGSU students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community.

Plan.

There are a few key areas to consider to lead a successful crowdfunding campaign.

  • A reasonable goal. We recommend you set a goal between $2,000 and $10,000. Submissions outside of this range will be reviewed by the team and discussed with applicants. Think about whether you've raised funds previously for your area. How much did you raise? How engaged was your audience and did they understand the goals of your crowdfunding campaign?
  • An end date. When do you need the funds? A campaign typically lasts 30 days. Note: The “quiet phase” of the campaign – organizing the campaign and soliciting lead gifts to create momentum for the project launch – lasts between four and six weeks.
  • Your advocates. Advocates are your crowdfunding campaign’s champions. Who do you know who can spread the message and get others excited?

Apply

You must submit your application for a crowdfunding campaign 6 weeks before the campaign is set to start.

Once your application is received, we will set up a virtual meeting to review:

  • The GiveCampus platform
  • Expectations
  • Required materials to create your campaign page.

Apply to start a campaign

You will be required to provide all content for your page. A description of your campaign should include:

  • Your story
Why should donors support your campaign? Tell them about your club or organization. Do you have a long history or are you just starting out?
  • Your “whyand how funds will be used
Why are you raising funds? Do you want to attend a national competition or replace old uniforms or equipment? Explaining your “why” will help donors understand the bigger picture and let them know how their dollars will be spent.
  • A photograph or a video
A photo or video representing your crowdfunding campaign is required for all campaigns. All videos should be shot landscape, with images being at least 760x430 px.
